Top-Grade Seafood Restaurant in Cebu

Cebu cannot fail in two things: lechon (roasted pig) and seafood. The former may be more commonly attached to the Philippine province, but seafood options in the area are just as excellent. When you start exploring, it won’t take long until you uncover the edible treasures that the tropical destination has. One of them is called saang, a typical street food in Cebu that’s commonly cooked several ways.

Saang or spider shells are typically grilled or boiled. Out in the streets, they are sold skewered already, so you will not have to take the meat out by yourself. They are sold very cheap as well; two sticks should not cost you more than $1.

Of course, if you’re looking for a restaurant that serves conch so you can pair it with beer, I’d recommend Ace Crab. This is a no-fuss seafood restaurant in Cebu that makes steamed and seasoned saang, as well as conch in sashimi form!

Aside from this exotic food that Cebuanos do best, Ace Crab also offers seafood that you may be more familiar with: crabs and prawns! The name of the restaurant says it all, but Ace’s crabs are really meaty and tasty. They do not disappoint. The prawns are also bigger than average, and no matter how you want them — fried, with chili, or in butter and garlic — you’ll get to taste that pure prawn flavor that makes you want to have some more.

Here’s a steamed alimango (Filipino word for crab) that’s around 800g!

If you want to add flavor to the dish, you can request for the rich chili sauce that gives just the right amount of kick!

Of course, if you’re looking for a more subtle flavor, you can order the Garlic Alimango.

This seafood restaurant in Cebu also make their prawns in the two flavors I just mentioned, but you can also have it in tempura form. (Perfect with ice cold San Miguel Beer!)

The prawns at Ace Crab are also quite big, so expect to have a very satisfying lunch or dinner.

I ordered garlic shrimp and chicken fried rice! The taste was very satisfying and the price was reasonable.

Translated customer review on WAUG | 2018-11-05

I first had steamed conch, which took me by surprise because the serving was huge. For me, it was special because we don’t have it in Korea. The chili crab was so delicious. I had garlic rice with it, and it tastes really good if you mix it with the crab’s sauce… The black tiger shrimp was too big and tasted good. The amount seems to be good for 2 to 3 people. Had I ordered directly at the restaurant, I would have spent more than 70,000 won ($58). If anyone I know will travel to Cebu, I would recommend this place.

If you compare with other similar seafood restaurants in Cebu, you may find Ace Crab to be a bit more pricey. However, as you may have realized through the reviews (assuming you read them! 😉), you really get what you pay for — if not more! Assuming you would like to try all three of the seafood items, here’s the cost breakdown if you go by the standard menu:

  • Medium-sized Crabs: around ₱1,488 for 800g
  • Black Tiger Chili: ₱580
  • Steamed Saang: ₱440

In total, that would be ₱2,508, which converts to around $50. However, if you book on WAUG here, you can have the same food bundle for only around $44! (If you have not used WAUG before, sign up here to get an extra $3-discount coupon that you can use on your first booking!)
