Spectacular Light Displays at Burj Khalifa

When there’s a nation to celebrate or an occasion to commemorate, you can almost always count on Burj Khalifa to light up and show solidarity. In recent years, we’ve seen the tallest structure in the world transform itself beautifully, so, in the same spirit that Burj Khalifa does it, let’s take a look back at some of its most memorable displays:

1. Jacinda Ardern for her empathy

In 2019, the word peace and an image of New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern were projected onto Burj Khalifa. This was to thank the leader for showing empathy towards the muslim community after the mass shooting in two Christchurch mosques.

2. Flag of New Zealand for Waitangi Day

Early this year, Burj Khalifa also had a light display of New Zealand’s flag to show their support on Waitangi Day.

3. Flag of Canada for Canada Day

To help celebrate Canada Day, Burj Khalifa bloomed in red and white in July of 2019. (The maple leaf was just nice to look at!)

4. Mahatma Gandhi for his 150th birth anniversary

On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, the Burj Khalifa lit up images of the founder of the modern nonviolence movement, as well as India’s flag.
